Cello Position Etudes

Several years ago Nicholas Nirva, a trumpet student at CMU, took cello lessons from me. Instead of having him play published position pieces, I had him write his own position etudes to help learn the fingerboard. The result was, Cello Method for the Existing Instrumentalist. Nick has graciously allowed me to offer this method book free of charge on my website.

These position pieces span from first to fourth position. Each etude covers all of the notes in each position and is transposed to the other positions.

The advantage of having each etude transposed to the other positions is the student gets to feel the changes in finger spacing between the positions.

This method book is a great crash course on the cello positions and if coupled with a cello drone CD, provides excellent intonation practice as well.
